Updating Your Bio and Interests
Your bio and interests are two of the most powerful tools on your profile. They give other players a glimpse of your personality before a round even starts -- and they're often the spark that kicks off a great conversation.
How to Update
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Edit.
- Update your Bio text or tap on Interests to change your selections.
- Changes save automatically.
Writing a Great Bio
Your bio has a 300-character limit, so every word counts. Here's how to make the most of it.
Do:
- Be authentic. Write like you're talking to a friend, not filling out a form.
- Mention specific hobbies or passions. "I'm learning to make pasta from scratch" is way more interesting than "I like food."
- Show some personality. A little humor, a quirky detail, or an honest statement goes a long way.
- Give people a conversation hook. End with something people can ask you about, like "Ask me about my worst camping story."
Avoid:
- Generic filler. "Just ask me" or "I'll fill this in later" wastes your best real estate.
- Negative framing. "Don't message me if..." sets the wrong tone before you've even met anyone.
- Overly long lists. Pick a few highlights rather than listing everything you've ever enjoyed.
Bio Examples
Coffee snob, trail runner, and recovering karaoke addict. Currently binge-watching every cooking show ever made. Say hi if you know the best taco spot in town.
Architect by day, terrible guitarist by night. I'll definitely ask about your most unpopular opinion. Dog dad to a very dramatic golden retriever.
Choosing Your Interests
Interests are selected from a predefined list within the app. They appear as tags on your profile card during games and in the Spark Lounge.
Tips for picking interests:
- Choose interests that genuinely reflect you. Don't pick "Yoga" just because it sounds good if you've never been to a class.
- Think about conversation starters. Shared interests are the easiest way to break the ice in a 40-second round.
- Mix broad and specific. Combining something common like "Travel" with something niche like "Board Games" gives a more complete picture.
- Update them over time. If you've picked up a new hobby or dropped an old one, swap your interests to keep things current.
Why It Matters
During speed dating rounds, players often glance at your bio and interests right before (or during) a conversation. Having a thoughtful bio and well-chosen interests means:
- Easier conversations -- people have something to ask you about right away.
- Better connections -- you attract people who share your actual interests.
- More memorable impressions -- in a fast-paced game, a standout bio sticks with people when it's time to vote.
