Changing Your Location
Your location is displayed on your profile as a city and region (for example, "San Francisco, CA"). It helps other players know where you're based and ensures you see game schedules relevant to your timezone.
How Location Works
During onboarding, Crowdr captures your location via GPS when you grant location permissions. This is converted into a human-readable city and region that appears on your profile card.
Your location is used for:
- Displaying your city on your profile so other players know where you're from.
- Game scheduling -- showing you game times adjusted to your local timezone.
How to Update Your Location
If you've moved, are traveling, or just need to refresh your location:
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap on Location.
- Allow Crowdr to access your current location when prompted.
- Your city and region will update automatically based on your GPS coordinates.
Location Permissions
Crowdr needs location permissions to determine your city. If you've previously denied access, you'll need to enable it in your device settings:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Crowdr.
- Tap Location.
- Select "While Using the App" or "Ask Next Time or When I Share".
- Return to Crowdr and try updating your location again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my exact location shared with other users? No. Other users only see your city and region (e.g., "Austin, TX"). Your precise GPS coordinates are never shown to anyone.
What if my location looks wrong? Try updating it from Profile > Edit > Location. Make sure you're in an area with good GPS signal -- being indoors or in a dense urban area can sometimes affect accuracy. If the issue persists, try stepping outside and updating again.
Does my location affect who I'm connected with in games? Currently, game lobbies are not filtered by location. You may be connected with players from different cities. Location is shown on profiles for informational purposes and for timezone-based scheduling.
Can I manually type in a city? No. Location is determined automatically by GPS to ensure accuracy. You'll need to allow location access for the app to detect your current city.
